Annette Nunez | Friendship Is | Author Interview

Zoe Hewitt talks to Annette Nunez about her book, Friendship is.

This book is designed to demonstrate that a typical child’s understanding of friendship is the same as that of a child with autism. A single snapshot of a child is not indicative of whether or not he/she can form deep and meaningful friendships. Every child shows care for one another in different ways. Just because a child with autism may not display what we perceive or interpret as a deep connection, does not mean that the connections aren’t meaningful to them. We hope that this book will teach both adults and children to socially accept one another despite their color, gender, age, or diagnosis. Social acceptance is key to creating a safe and discrimination-free environment.
